It’s been almost a full month since we took to one of the region’s most beloved art spaces, Gateshead’s Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, to ogle the new Nissan Qashqai at its launch event. Doesn’t time fly? Well, It’s now officially for sale and available from all three Benfield Nissan dealerships to buy or take for a lifestyle test drive so we thought it was high time we got one out of the showrooms and onto the road!
We told you last time about a few of the new Qashqai’s key features such as the automated parking assistance system, but what we couldn’t tell you at the time is just how impressive and secure the Qashqai feels to drive. It’s a big car yes, but the sense of force that comes with driving it has far less to do with its impressive dimensions and far more to do with the build quality that is so deeply ingrained in every surface and mechanism.
The steering for example, performs perfectly without the need for being as feather-light as a lot of newer cars. That’s not to say it’s heavy, it’s just reassuring, letting you feel the weight of the car your working with and not tricking you into to thinking you can control it with one finger. Nissan are justifiably well-known for their reliability and it’s a brand tradition that the Qashqai upholds with an easy grace.
The interior is extremely well-appointed as well as being bang up to date. It’s also very, very comfortable, with seats that may make you feel a good deal smaller than you actually are. It must be said too that, no matter where you are, the Qashqai comes with a beautiful view, coming equipped as it does with panoramic windows and a huge, full-ceiling sun roof.
There’s also an enviable level of tech in the car, with the dashboard alone housing a very handy display of the speed limit on whatever road you may be on so that you have no excuse not to drive safely. Safety is a huge consideration here too, as there’s also the collision detection and object avoidance systems, individual air bags, and the driver drowsiness sensors that will give you a jolt of noise should the car think you’re resting your eyes a bit too much when you should be watching the road.
Nissan’s new Qashqai then is a story of many, equally impressive, parts that have come together to form a car that is beautiful in every sense. A big protective cocoon that is also nimble and cutting edge and will probably outlast most of your household’s white goods. What more could you ask for?
Here’s a little gallery of Qashqai photos so you can get a feel for what we’ve been talking about. The regular Benfield blog photographer was on holiday when we had the Qashqai so you’ll have to make do with these official Nissan photos just this once!
